Reitnouer is an American manufacturer of aluminum flatbed, drop-deck, and specialized platform trailers. Its equipment serves general open-deck freight, machinery transportation, building materials, steel hauling, and specialized cargo applications.

Operating as Reitnouer, Inc., the company is known for its bolted structural designs and equipment developed around different load requirements. This page brings together Reitnouer’s history, equipment categories, company information, and product profiles published on Truck Equipment Atlas.

History and Background

Bud Reitnouer established the business in 1982 around a different approach to aluminum trailer construction. His goal was to combine aluminum’s weight advantages with structural strength and practical repairability.

Reitnouer developed an aluminum flatbed using bolted structural connections to reduce reliance on welding in critical areas. This approach became a defining characteristic of the company’s trailer designs.

The product range expanded to include flatbeds with different load ratings, drop-deck trailers, multi-axle platforms, combination trailers, and specialized equipment. Customer requirements and serviceability remain central themes in the company’s equipment development.

What Reitnouer Manufactures

Reitnouer manufactures platform trailers for a range of freight weights, dimensions, and operating requirements. Its equipment categories include:

  • Aluminum flatbed trailers: Models including MaxLite, MaxMiser, Big Bubba, Bigger Bubba, and the CK Series.
  • Drop-deck trailers: DropMiser configurations with a lower rear deck for taller freight and compatible machinery.
  • Multi-axle trailers: Platforms configured for specialized loads and weight-distribution requirements.
  • Combination trailers: A-Train and B-Train equipment for compatible routes and operating jurisdictions.
  • Specialized industry trailers: Equipment developed for glass transportation, live poultry hauling, and other specific applications.

Reitnouer platforms may also be equipped with rolling tarp systems. When reviewing covered platform equipment, identify the trailer and its installed covering system separately.

Technology and Product Development

Reitnouer’s structural approach includes a two-piece bolted and bonded main beam, reinforced one-piece cross members, and floating outriggers. These features address load distribution and stresses within the trailer structure.

Its platform features include snap-in flooring, movable tie-downs, and securement options for different cargo types. Selected options include coil racks, coil blocks, log pockets, and load levelers for DropMiser applications.

Although Reitnouer is associated with aluminum platforms, construction materials vary by component. The manufacturer identifies high-strength steel goosenecks on its drop-deck trailers.

Model selection should account for concentrated-load ratings, distributed loads, axle arrangements, deck dimensions, and cargo securement requirements. Manufacturer documentation provides the ratings for a particular configuration.
