ConMet manufactures wheel-end assemblies, brake components, cast-metal parts, and plastic systems for commercial trucks and trailers. Its product range also includes TruckWings active aerodynamic equipment.
Truck Equipment Atlas covers ConMet equipment to help readers understand wheel-end construction, brake-drum design, component serviceability, and the relationship between these systems and commercial-vehicle operation.
History and Background
Consolidated Metco, commonly known as ConMet, began in 1964 as part of Portland Freightliner, a subsidiary of Consolidated Freightways. Its early business centered on commercial-vehicle wheel-end components and aluminum manufacturing.
ConMet expanded into plastics manufacturing in 1980 and introduced its PreSet hub technology in 1995. Amsted Industries acquired Varlen Corporation, including ConMet, in 1999. PreSet Plus hubs followed in North America in 2011.
In 2023, ConMet acquired TruckLabs, the developer of TruckWings aerodynamic technology, extending its offering beyond traditional wheel-end and structural components.

Technology and Product Development
PreSet technology brings wheel-end components together in a preassembled, preadjusted hub. The system was developed to simplify assembly and reduce the variability associated with manually assembling and adjusting conventional wheel ends.
ConMet’s PreSet and PreSet Plus range includes iron and aluminum hub assemblies for different truck and trailer axle positions, with configurations for drum and disc brakes.
TruTurn brake drums use precision machining to create a balanced drum with consistent wall thickness. ConMet added TruCast brake drums to its North American aftermarket range in 2026, expanding replacement coverage alongside the premium TruTurn offering.
TruckWings addresses aerodynamic drag by automatically closing the gap between the tractor cab and trailer at highway speeds. This extends ConMet’s vehicle-efficiency work beyond the wheel end.
